Don 2 - Movie review

Slick And Stylishly intelligent script is the major asset of Don 2! Its got all the elements of a perfect blockbuster- super cars, action sequences, car chases, foreign locales and most importantly- SRK!

Directed by Farhan Akhtar, Don 2's major USPs are SRK, his histrionics, Priyanka Chopra (looking super hot in a kickass avtar!) and awesome Dialogues! After a not so successful 'Ra.One', Shahrukh Khan is back with a bang! He is adorably mean, and stylishly cunning! He carries the whole film on his shoulders and takes the film notches above its prequel, Don. Another advantage being the fact that that there are no comparisons being drawn between SRK and BigB here.

Taking off from where they left in 'Don', SRK's first bearded look is a bit scary and grungy, but his flamboyant Don avtar is soon back!! The numerous twists in the movie make it an edge-of-the-seat experience (Sorry, can't reveal the twists- GO WATCH IT!!) The songs are dull, and make you feel like they lack something, except for the title track, which is the best of the lot. Background score by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy is good and adds to the feel!

On the performance front, SRK is first class!! He is at ease playing a grey role, and fits the bill better than he did as a superhero in Ra.One! (Do more such roles KingKhan!) His dialogues are ekdum seeti-maar! Priyanka Chopra, as the kickass interpol officer, Roma, complements SRK very well. And she not jus adds glam (like her contemporaries :P), but has some action sequences to which she does enough justice. Her scenes with SRK in the second half have a very rough, lusty feel to them, which look amazing on the screen!

Boman Irani is, as usual, good. Kunal kapoor does not have much to do, but if there is a sequel, then he has chances of getting a role in it. Lara Dutta, plays Don's new girlfriend and accomplice, Ayesha, but hardly has any scope in her role. She adds glam and glitz (similar to Eesha kopikar and kareena Kapoor in Don).

What works for the film are its Hollywood style direction, performances and the dialogues. Its fast paced in the first half and might seem a little dragged to some (Read: SRK detractors), but nonetheless, it ends with a good twist!

On the flip side, there are a few loopholes in the second half. During their bank heist, the plot could have been simplified. Or, it should have been explained better.

On the whole, its definitely one of the best action films made in Bollywood! And i really wish and pray that SRK does more such roles which suit his age (he needs to understand that he is getting old now!). Finally- Iss film ko flop karna mushkil hi nahi namumkin hai!
MY RATING- 3.5/5 (GO WATCH IT!!)

Bheja fry 2 (2011) - Film Review.

CAST- Vinay Pathak, Kay Kay Menon,Minnisha Lamba, Suresh Menon and Others.

DIRECTOR-Sagar Ballary.

THEME-a sequel to the 2007 comedy,Bheja Fry starring Vinay Pathak as the most irritatingly lovable, Bharat Bhushan.

RATING-2/5.

REVIEW- Bheja Fry 2 has a good start, with a fast paced first hour, but starts to bore you soon. Kay Kay Menon plays a businessman,Talwar, who floats fake companies in order to make it big. He in the course of the movie, bumps into an income tax officer-cum-aspiring singer,Bharat Bhushan, played by Vinay Pathak. And as predictable as it gets, Talwar assumes Bhushan to be an income tax officer after him, for a tax raid. The movie then follows on to a cruise liner and then an island where the central characters get lost. The story after that is about how they get saved and bear each other.

The positive points of the film are its cinematography and casting. the locations are scenic and the cruise liner adds beauty to the film. And coming to the casting, all the principle characters fit well in their roles. Minnisha Lamba, has an awkwardly small role in the movie, about which she has been talking even at the Cannes!! Suresh Menon is funny in parts and his camaraderie with Vinay Pathak is very good. The two are the only saving graces of the film. Kay Kay Menon is just passable, though he has got an equally important role as that of Pathak. And Vinay Pathak reincarnates in the same role that he played in the original, but probably a little more annoying. I prefer the first one over its sequel.

The negatives include bad story, script and screenplay. One tends to get bored toward the second half. In fact, the first half is no better. Adding a little more humour and twists to the movie.may be would have saved it. Its not really a fun watch!! Watch it only if you have no other option.
